RODE Microphones started off as part of the Freedman Group of Companies, which was established in nineteen sixty seven by Astrid and Henry Freedman. This company had been formed shortly after the 2 emigrated from Sweden to Australia.
The Freedmen Electronics company was an early innovator in the audio industry of Australia. They quickly became famous as installers, designers, servicers and manufacturers of a wide array of acoustic products. Their portfolio of expertise included amplifiers, loudspeakers, microphones and custom electronics. And all of these services were offered to a small but lucrative market within Australia.
At the time, the company was aggressively pursuing their research and development goals in both the field and the lab. They set out to advance the state of microphone technology by releasing ambitious new designs with unmatched quality.
But it wasn't until nineteen ninety that the company decided to launched their very own line of RØDE branded microphones. This new decision was brought on by a change in the market which was creating a new, underserved niche.
New, inexpensive sound production technologies were giving birth to the home recording market. However, there were very few high-quality microphone products being released to meet the demands of this new niche. At the time, industry leaders were still focusing on high-priced products for premium customers within the professional music market.
RØDE knew that, since this new market was very large and growing, they could offer a high-quality product at a lower price by focusing on higher-volume sales. The end-result would be some of the best dollar-for-dollar microphone values ever seen until that time.
Thanks to the success of these early product offerings, the company was able to expand to their current factory location, near the site of the Sydney Olympics. The larger factory space was necessary to accommodate the rapid growth in demand for their stellar quality products. The company also has another manufacturing facility about two hundred kilometers north of Sydney.
When you buy a Rode microphone, you're making a lifelong investment in quality which is backed by a company that truly cares about its products.
