If you travel a lot, it helps to have very rugged cases carry your equipment. A high-quality DJ case is an investment that will protect your equipment for years to come, and endure a lot of punishment along the way.
Besides being incredibly rugged, some cases also serve other useful purposes by adapting themselves to your work style for faster tear-down or setup.
At PlayDeRecord, we offer everything from simple DJ boxes to sophisticated DJ coffin systems. Our coffin systems are designed specifically around the working needs of full-time professional DJs, and can integrate with your mixers, turntables, samplers and laptop. Just lay the coffin on a table, lift the cover, and you’re ready to work!
A DJ coffin will also allow you to lock up your equipment, protecting it from theft or tampering while you head out on break or attend to other business.
Some handy features to look for in a DJ Coffin include:
In addition to DJ coffins, we also carry a wide range of general flight cases for entertainers. When travelling, you want to ensure that your case can take whatever punishment other handlers might throw at it.
Our cases are designed with heavy use in mind. They feature metal corners, solid wood, and thick foam padding. Many of them also feature heavy-duty handles and wheels for easy transportation.
The standard sizing unit for travel cases is called the “rackspace”. A rackspace simply refers to the number of standardized racks which may be loaded into the box. This rack unit (also called U) is 19 inches across, and 1.75 inches tall. So a 19 inch wide device measuring 5.25 inches in height would be a 3U unit.
When talking about travel cases, the number of rackspaces or U units only refers to the internal measurements. The outside measurements of the box aren’t taken into account.
A case is said to be ATA if it meets the standards set out by the Air Transport Association. This signifies that they meet a very high standard of durability, quality and protection. You can still carry your equipment using cases not approved by the ATA, but it may affect the kind of liability protection you receive from the airline.
